Awkward Silence helps you talk with the people you love. It was built so that what you share about them stays yours.

What stays on your device

The people you add (names, relationships, ages or birthdays, interests, notes), the cards you save or hide, the cards you write, your settings, and which cards you’ve seen with whom. All of it is stored in your browser or the app on your device. If you never sign in, none of it leaves the device unless you save a backup file yourself.

Your account

The website asks you to sign up with your email address. In the iPhone and Android apps, signing in is optional. When you’re signed in, we keep your email address, your name if you give it, and a copy of the data above in your account, so your other devices stay in step. Only you can read it: the database enforces that every row belongs to one account and nobody else’s sign-in can reach it. Our database is hosted by Supabase in the United States.

To run the app, we can see a summary of each account: your email address, your name if you give it, when you joined and last used the app, what you’ve bought, and totals such as how many conversations you’ve had and how many people you’ve added. That’s totals only. It doesn’t include the names or notes of the people you add, the cards you save or write, or anything else inside your data.

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. That removes your sign-in and everything synced to it. The copy on your device stays until you erase it, which you can also do in Settings.

Emails from us

We use your email address to send your sign-in codes, a welcome email when you create an account, and a thank-you after your first purchase. When you sign up on the website, you can also tick a box to hear about events, news, and new expansion packs. It starts unticked, and we only send those emails if you tick it. We keep a record of your choice and when you made it. You can change your mind at any time in Settings, or by using the unsubscribe link in any of those emails.

Our welcome, thank-you, and news emails are sent through Kit, which receives your email address for that purpose only. Deleting your account stops them. Sign-in codes are sent through Resend.

What we never do

Purchases

On the website, payments go through Stripe, and RevenueCat keeps the record of what you bought under your account. In the iPhone and Android apps, payments go through Apple or Google. Either way, we receive a record of what you bought so it can unlock on your devices, never your card details.

Children

Awkward Silence is meant to be used by a parent or another adult with children present. Children don’t create accounts, and the cards for kids never ask for personal information.
